BoomBoomButterfly: Funky Breaks

EmmaLadyI’d like to take this opportunity to introduce BoomBoomButterfly.

BoomBoomButterfly is a project I produced in 2003-2004 when my daughter was 2. That’s her little voice on the tracks. She was very good at laying down the vocals.

Actually, the project started in early 2004 with 8 songs, which were more mellow and ambient. I’ll post some of those later. The second time around, I wanted to do something faster and crazier.

Lots of breaks, lots of beats, lots of bass, and lots of synths.

The name BoomBoomButterfly came from my daughter who put two of the song samples together from the first project. There’s a song that says “Boom, Boom Heart” and another that says “Butterflies are dancing”. The tracks from the first project are very chill and trip-hoppy. They are all about 6-8 minutes long. I’ll post those tracks later. Stay tuned.

This first track is called More of You:

The sample says “More of You, Less of Me”, and “Papi, can you add some bass!”

I just dig that crazy, harsh square lead. This has sort of a hard rap type feel, but without the rapping. We need to decrease so God can increase.

This second track is called Pray Now:

The sample says “Ooo, I like that beat!” and “Don’t Wait!”

I was thinking about how we need to pray right now. You could be praying. Like, don’t wait to pray later…you could be praying right now. The track is pretty hard. Sort of old Prodigy and Chemical Brothers style.

This next track is called You Are My Brother:

The sample says “I am my brother’s keeper”

Sort of going off what Cain said to God after he killed Abel. The truth is, we are to keep our brothers in check, aren’t we? This track has a crazy 70s type soul bassline and a sort of distorted guitar synth lead.

I tried to keep these songs short. Most of my other stuff is really long, like 8 minutes on average. The three and a half minute time limit I put on myself made me work the song faster, have the breaks happen quicker and not take the measures as far out as I normally would.

Still keeping with the electronic genre, but more of a song type format rather than a DJ friendly format with long introductions and endings.

Hope you enjoy this group of tracks. Here’s a link to the rest of the tracks from this project. There are 7 tracks from this project. Download them, share them, whatever you want.

Have a jammin’ day.

What do you think?
