How a Skateboard can Save your Life (4)
A few posts ago, I started a series about how skateboard deck art can be used as springboard opportunities to talk about God. I’ve been looking around the web for cool deck art and found a bunch. I’ve picked a few I thought would be interesting. Here’s another:
Thugs
These guys look like they are going to beat this kid to a pulp, but the kid is ready to fight. The wagon makes it look like the kid is innocent, like he’s just a little boy.
There’s this thing in our minds that happens when we are faced with situations like this one, it’s called Fight or Flight. It’s an instinctual response. You either fight for survival or your run. I think most of us will run, but you never know.
Have you ever been in a situation where you were outnumbered, but felt like you needed to put up whatever you could and do whatever damage you could in the process?
That’s what it’s like in the world, isn’t it? It seems like we have to fight and claw our way around. Maybe it’s not about someone trying to hurt you, but maybe it’s someone trying to force you to do something. Maybe it’s someone convincing you to do something you know is not right.
Man, some of your friends could be the thugs I’m talking about. Maybe it’s just a hurtful comment about one of your friends and you need to decide to defend your friend or not.
Maybe you’ve put yourself in the situation and you know you were wrong, but you’ve got to face the consequences of your actions.
I had a friend who had just turned his life to the Lord from his old ways of drinking and getting into fights. One day he was having a rougher than normal day and went to a bar for a drink. He ended up picking a fight with a guy who was smaller than he was, and for some stupid “Fight Club” type reason.
As soon as they stepped outside, the Lord spoke to him about his pride and how he needed to get out of this way of life.
My friend was so convicted that he lowered his fists and let the guy beat the poo out of him. He totally could have taken this guy out, but that wasn’t the point. The point was that he heard God speaking about consequences, and he listened.
The truth is, we do it to ourselves. We are not innocent at all. We are not victims.
Ask yourself these question, “Do you like where you’re at right now?” “Are you doing something different to get out of this way of life?”
Have a great day.
What do you think?
1. How many fights have you gotten into?
2. Are you in trouble right now?
3. What’s on your deck?
